Her expertise is in assisting companies to market therapies for primary chronic conditions, rare diseases, and oncology while ensuring patients can access such groundbreaking treatments.

She has advised biopharma clients of all sizes on omnichannel customer engagement, digital enablement, data analytics, commercial strategy and operations, marketing, and medical affairs.

She has also led the development of several SaaS solutions for the life sciences industry and holds three patents in this area.

Angeliki’s success is in the joy she gets from creating custom-tailored solutions for each client’s unique needs, digging deep to understand the intricacies of each client’s organization, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that solutions genuinely empower them to be effective at their jobs.

Her Career Path

Most recently, Angeliki collaborated with Avenga as a Senior Vice President of Life Sciences, where she spearheaded the firm’s commercial strategy and expansion into the United States. Avenga is a global digital engineering and consulting platform and technology partner for prominent international pharmaceutical, biotech, and life science enterprises, including GlaxoSmithKline, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Galderma, as well as contract research organizations, clinical research facilities, and pharmacovigilance service providers. Her responsibilities with Avenga included developing organizational design and client targeting strategy. In a very short time, she created the firm’s client pipeline from zero to several large and mid-sized biopharma companies.

Before joining Avenga, She was the Principal Group Lead of Commercial Excellence at Axtria for an extensive client portfolio covering the West Coast biotech segment and select pharma accounts in the Northeast and Europe. Axtria helps life sciences organizations gain a competitive edge to improve patient outcomes and drive business growth. While at Axtria, she established and took to market the company’s Commercial Excellence Strategic initiatives, achieving 100% growth in just one year. She also developed innovative client engagement models to support the initiatives and grew the West Coast biotech business by 200% within a year.

Angeliki Cooney also worked at IT research and consulting company Gartner as Senior Director of Life Sciences Consulting. There, she bridged the gap in understanding and collaboration between the business imperatives of life sciences clients and their IT teams’ operational realities and challenges.

Her impressive career also includes working at New York Life Insurance as Corporate Vice President of Digital Health Strategic Capabilities and Partnerships; at IMS Health (currently IQVIA) as Director, Thought Leadership & Executive Engagement; and at ZS Associates as Manager and Leader of Commercial Excellence & Operations Capability Group for the New York, Boston, and Toronto offices. In her roles, she was integral in transforming digital capabilities and harnessing data analytics to produce better healthcare outcomes and more significant business results.

While at IMS Health, Angeliki established an innovation incubator with strategic client executives to develop novel analytical frameworks, tools for insight generation, and additional ancillary syndicated products. Within the first year after implementation, this led to three granted patents and a robust pipeline of business advisory and services opportunities, ultimately becoming a new line of business for IMS Health. While at IMS Health, she spoke at various industry conferences and universities, including Rutgers, and authored several articles for major industry publications.

Adding to the depth and breadth of her career experience are positions she held at AT Kearney, Deloitte Consulting, and Procter & Gamble.

An MBA and MS in Chemical Engineering

Angeliki Cooney’s academic pedigree is equally as impressive as her career accomplishments. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Patra, Greece.

Angeliki’s Foray into the Pharmaceutical Industry Began Early in Life

Angeliki’s passion for the pharmaceutical industry began at age ten during her first summer internship at her godfather’s pharmacy in Europe. She fell in love with the idea of learning everything there was to know about available medicines at the time and how they helped patients treat their conditions. This passion led her to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

On Her Off Time

Angeliki is married and has a son who has won multiple piano competitions and aspires to become a classical piano performer. Her husband, Brian, is an accomplished professor at Union College with a recently highly acclaimed book on Burkina Faso’s assassinated leader, Thomas Sankara.

The family’s pastime is skiing, which she loves. Inspired by her autistic son, who had tried skiing for several years and took to it immediately, Angeliki, who had never seen snow in her native Greece, decided to join him, and a family passion was born. The family moved from the metropolitan New York City area to Wynantskill, NY, to devote more time to the slopes. She has skied almost all major East Coast runs and loves skiing in the Adirondacks.

Reaching Out to Her Native Country

When Greece took in thousands of refugees during the Syrian civil war, Angeliki Cooney and her family arranged to provide them with food while in Athens. She travels to Greece regularly to see family and enjoy the beauty of her homeland.
